Wax play

Dripping candle wax on skin for the heat and the sensation, the gentlest entry into sensation play and one of the most visual.

Wax play is sensation play with candles: wax dripped from a height onto skin, for the brief heat, the sensation as it cools, and the look of it. It is one of the most beginner-friendly forms of sensation play because the intensity is easy to control (height and candle type), it needs no skill to receive, and the risk, if you use the right candles, is low.

The candle is everything. Paraffin and soy candles made for play melt at low temperatures; ordinary household candles, beeswax and especially anything with metal or scent can burn badly. Height controls heat: higher is cooler. Colour and dye change the melting point, which is why play candles are sold by temperature.

It attaches to almost any dynamic or none: it is as common between vanilla couples looking for something new as it is in a dungeon. The clean-up (wax on skin, wax on sheets) is the running joke of the whole practice.

Signs this is you

  • Heat and temperature are sensations you like, from hot baths to ice.
  • You want sensation play that looks beautiful as much as it feels.
  • You'd like something a nervous partner could say yes to.
  • You've dripped a candle on your own hand to check.

How people do it safely

Only candles made for play, tested on your own forearm first. Start high and come lower. Never the face, never near eyes or hair, nothing scented or with metal. Have water and a towel ready. Remove wax after, and expect redness for a few hours. Skin conditions and sensitivity vary: ask.

Common questions

Which candles are safe for wax play?

Candles made for it: low-melt paraffin or soy, sold by temperature. Never household, beeswax, scented or metallic candles, which burn.

Does wax play hurt?

A brief heat, then warmth. From a good height with a play candle it is closer to a hot shower than to pain. Lower the candle and it sharpens.

How do you get the wax off?

It peels or flakes once cool; oil helps with residue. Lay down an old sheet first.
