Impact play

Striking by agreement, with a hand or an implement, for sensation, release or as part of a power dynamic.

Members say what they're into and what they're looking for on their card, in plain words. Browsing is free and needs no account; the faces are blurred until you join.

Impact play is the family that spanking belongs to: floggers, paddles, canes, crops, straps and hands, used by one person on another with limits and a stop agreed in advance. It is the most-taught skill in the scene after rope, because the difference between a good evening and an injury is mostly technique, and technique is learnable.

Implements fall into thuddy and stingy. Thud (heavy floggers, broad paddles) feels deep and can be almost meditative; sting (canes, crops, thin straps) is sharp and surface. Most people have a strong preference, and most couples find that the receiver's preference, not the giver's, decides the toolkit.

It attaches to almost any dynamic or none: a sadist and a masochist who want nothing else, a Dom using it as discipline, a couple who like the endorphin high and the closeness after. The people who list it on their cards here span every role on the site.

Signs this is you

  • You've wondered what a flogger actually feels like, not whether it would hurt.
  • Massage that's a little too hard is your favourite kind.
  • The idea of a cane makes you wince and curious at once.
  • You like the quiet after intense sensation more than the sensation itself.

Not sure where you sit? Sadist or masochist?: free, a few minutes, no account, and the result shows you who fits you nearby.

How people do it safely

Learn the safe zones: upper back and shoulders, buttocks, thighs. Never the spine, kidneys, neck, joints or the face without specific training. Warm up slowly, check in, and learn to read skin (even redness is fine; raised welts and broken skin are a stop). A class teaches throwing a flogger in an hour; a video does not.

Common questions

Does impact play have to hurt?

No. A heavy flogger thrown well feels like a deep massage; many people never go past that. Intensity is a dial, agreed by both.

What should a beginner buy first?

A medium suede flogger: forgiving, thuddy, hard to injure with. Canes and single-tails come much later, after instruction.

Where do people learn?

Classes at kink education groups and dungeons, which most cities have monthly. The city pages here list them with dates.

A plain-language guide, not advice from a professional, and nothing here is better or worse than anything else. People are into several of these at once, and what fits changes over time.
