Electroplay

Sensation play with electricity: violet wands that crackle on the skin, and TENS and e-stim units that make muscles pulse. Intense, controllable, and strictly rule-bound.

Electroplay is sensation play using electricity, and it divides into two different things. Violet wands are high-voltage, low-current devices that produce a crackling, static-like sensation on the skin's surface, from a tickle to a sharp sting, and a show of purple light. TENS and e-stim units are low-voltage devices that contract muscles with pulses through pads, producing anything from a hum to an involuntary jolt.

Both are popular because the intensity is a dial, literally, and because the sensation is unlike anything else: people who find impact play too blunt often love electricity. Both also have firm rules that are not optional, which is why electroplay is one of the most-taught topics at kink education nights.

The one rule everyone knows: nothing across the chest, nothing that puts current through the heart. The others matter too: not with pacemakers or heart conditions, not with implanted devices, not during pregnancy, not on the head or neck, nothing across the body. Violet wands and metal (piercings, jewellery) need care.

Signs this is you

  • You like sensation that is sharp and precise rather than blunt.
  • The idea of involuntary movement, muscles pulsing without your say, appeals.
  • You enjoy equipment and the ritual of setting it up.
  • Impact play was fine but you wanted something stranger.

How people do it safely

Never across the chest or through the heart. Not with pacemakers, heart conditions, implants, epilepsy or pregnancy. Nothing above the shoulders. Pads below the waist or on one limb at a time. Start at zero and go up slowly. Learn from someone who knows; most dungeons teach it.

Common questions

What does a violet wand feel like?

Static electricity, from a tickle to a sharp crackle depending on the setting and the attachment, with a purple glow. Surface sensation, not muscle.

Is electroplay dangerous?

With the rules followed (nothing across the chest, not with heart conditions or implants, below the shoulders only) it is well understood and widely taught. Without them it can stop a heart.

TENS unit or violet wand first?

A TENS unit: cheap, low-voltage, and the sensation builds gently. Violet wands are more theatrical and need more care around metal and attachments.

A plain-language guide, not advice from a professional, and nothing here is better or worse than anything else. People are into several of these at once, and what fits changes over time.
