Is a caregiver the same as a dominant?

Not quite. Both lead, but a caregiver leads by nurturing: structure, routine, praise, comfort and being reliably present. Dominance can be all of those and can equally be none of them.

The day-to-day of caregiving is famously unglamorous. Meals, bedtimes, remembering what upsets someone. People drawn to it usually find they were already doing it before they had a word for it.

There are caregivers who are strict and there are caregivers who are indulgent, and neither is more authentic than the other.
