Billing terms

What membership costs, how it renews, how to cancel in one step, and when you get money back. Written to be read, not skimmed.

Draft. This page is a working version pending review by an attorney before launch.

Who you're paying

Hedonist is operated by Number One Son Software Development [[LEGAL_ENTITY_SUFFIX e.g. LLC]], a California business, [[BUSINESS_ADDRESS]]. Questions about a charge go to [[SUPPORT_EMAIL]].

Payments are processed by our payment processor, [[PROCESSOR_NAME]]. They handle your card; we never see or store the number.

What's free

Browsing the directory, taking the test, using the checklist, keeping a profile and saved places, and reading messages sent to you. None of that has a price and none of it ever will.

Prices

  • Member: $24.95 a month, or $59.00 every three months, or $149.00 a year.
  • Organizer: $29.00 a month. Includes everything in Member plus featured placement for one listing or event series.
  • Membership is what lets you send messages and say you're interested in what someone posted. Prices are in US dollars and are shown again, with the billing period and the renewal date, on the checkout page before you pay.

Automatic renewal

Every plan renews automatically at the end of its period, for the same period and at the price in effect, until you cancel. A monthly plan charges monthly, a quarterly plan every three months, an annual plan every year.

Renewal only happens if you agreed to it at checkout by ticking the box that says so. We don't pre-tick it and we don't start a free trial that turns into a charge.

After you pay we email you an acknowledgment that states the plan, the price, how often it renews, and how to cancel. Keep it; it's your copy of these terms.

If your plan runs a year or longer, we send you a reminder between 15 and 45 days before it renews, with the price and a one-click way to cancel.

Cancelling

  • Go to /me/membership and press Cancel membership. That's the whole process: one step, online, no chat, no phone call, no reason required.
  • Cancelling stops the next charge. You keep everything you paid for until the end of the current period, and then your account becomes a free account: you can still browse, keep your profile and read anything sent to you. Nothing is deleted.
  • You can also cancel by writing to [[SUPPORT_EMAIL]] from the address on your account. We'll confirm by return email.

Refunds

  • Partial periods aren't refunded. If you cancel halfway through a month, the month runs out and no further charge is made.
  • First quarterly or annual purchase: if you ask within 14 days of paying and you haven't sent a message, we refund it in full. That's the policy, and it exists because a long plan is a bigger bet on a site you're still getting to know.
  • Where the law where you live gives you a stronger right to a refund, that law applies.
  • Refunds go back to the payment method you used, and usually show within five to ten business days.

If a charge looks wrong

Write to [[SUPPORT_EMAIL]] first. We answer within two business days and we fix genuine mistakes without a fight. A chargeback filed with your bank takes weeks, costs everyone a fee, and gets you the same answer slower.

Charges appear on your statement under the neutral descriptor [[BILLING_DESCRIPTOR]], so a statement never says what kind of site this is.

If a payment fails

If a renewal payment doesn't go through, we email you and try again over the following seven days while your membership carries on as normal. If it still hasn't gone through after seven days, membership ends and your account becomes a free account. Nothing is deleted, and you can rejoin any time.

Price changes

If a price goes up, we tell you by email at least seven days before the change would affect your next renewal, and the email says how to cancel. If you do nothing, the new price applies from that renewal onwards. If a price goes down, you get the lower price at your next renewal without asking.

Taxes

Prices don't include sales or use taxes. Where we're required to collect tax on a membership, it's shown separately at checkout and on your acknowledgment.

Other ways to pay

Organizers can pay by bank transfer or check on an invoice instead of a card; write to [[SUPPORT_EMAIL]] to arrange it. Invoice plans don't renew automatically. We may also offer payment in cryptocurrency; those payments are for a fixed period, don't renew, and aren't refundable once confirmed on the network.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that affects you, we email you first. Continuing to use a paid plan after the date in that email means the new terms apply. The terms of use and the privacy policy also apply to membership.
